About Us

The Durban coastline was once the hunting ground of the largest land-based whaling stations on earth. Now, forty years after the Indian Ocean was declared a whale sanctuary, these majestic animals are thriving. Every winter (June to November only) hundreds of Humpback Whales make a great journey up from the freezing Antarctic waters and pass the warm tropical ocean just off Durban. This is the “Humpback Highway” where we may encounter these 40-ton giants, singing and breaching as part of their courting ritual.
